The draw for the 2024 CAF African Nations Championship (CHAN) is set to take place on Wednesday, January 15, in Nairobi, Kenya.
The Confederation of African Football (CAF) announced Sunday that the event will be held at the Kenyatta International Convention Centre (KICC). While the exact time of the draw has not yet been confirmed, the announcement effectively solidifies Kenya's role as the tournament's host.
Kenya, alongside Uganda and Tanzania, is set to co-host the 2024 CAF African Nations Championship (CHAN), an event that also provides a valuable opportunity for the three nations to fine-tune their preparations for hosting the 2027 CAF Africa Cup of Nations.
According to CAF’s seeding system, the three host nations, along with defending champions Senegal, will be placed in Pot 1, ensuring a favorable draw. Based on performances in the last three CHAN editions (2022, 2020, and 2018), Morocco is also expected to secure a spot in Pot 1.
So far, 17 teams have advanced to the tournament following two rounds of qualifiers. The event is anticipated to attract thousands of fans and captivate a global audience of millions.

Pot 2, as per reports, will have Guinea, Zambia, Madagascar, and Sudan.
The third pot, meanwhile, will have the remaining eight countries namely; Mauritania, Niger, Congo, Angola, Burkina Faso, Nigeria, Central African Republic and Democratic Republic of Congo. Since its inception in 2009, the CHAN tournament has served as a remarkable platform for showcasing the world-class talent and quality of African football, highlighting the sport's dynamic and ever-evolving landscape.
Kenya is preparing to host the 2024 edition by providing two venues for the tournament: Nyayo Stadium and Moi International Sports Centre, Kasarani. However, the country faces a race against time to complete ongoing renovations at these facilities.
Additionally, three Kenyan referees—Peter Waweru Kamaku, Dickens Mimisa, and Samuel Kuria—have been selected to officiate matches during the competition, which will run from February 1 to 28.
