Cody Gakpo, Darwin Nunez, and Mohamed Salahsurpassed a disappointing season by scoring twice as Liverpool thrashed Manchester United 7-0 at Anfield on Sunday.

The victory margin for Jurgen Klopp's team over the two most storied football clubs in England reached a new high.

With just a second defeat in 23 games in all competitions, United's ambitions of winning the league for the first time in ten years are likely ended because they are still 14 points behind third-place Arsenal.

But the defeat may have been the team's worst since 1931—longer-lasting effects.

With a game, Liverpool is only three points behind fourth-place Tottenham.

The opponent was defeated twice by Klopp's club in league games last year. Last season, 9-0 overall, but the tide had changed this year.

United's 2-1 victory over the Reds in August marked Erik ten Hag's first triumph in charge, and they started the day 10 points ahead of Liverpool.

Liverpool has exhibited the characteristics of a team that came close to capturing a record-breaking treble of championships the previous season.

After being humiliated 5-2 at home by Real Madrid, With 13 out of a possible 15 points in the Premier League, they have climbed back into the running for a place in the Champions League next season.

Ten Hag told his team to relish the hostile environment at Anfield, a venue where United has not won since 2016.

The visitors undoubtedly had better chances in a disputed first half, despite repelling an early attack.

Instead of nearly missing a header from Bruno Fernandes, Marcus Rashford should have extended his torrid goal-scoring spree when he blasted tamely into Alisson's arms.

Liverpool finally put on a remarkable display in the final third to open the scoring two minutes before halftime. Casemiro's goal could not stand due to offside.

Gakpo entered the game and fired low into the far side after Andy Robertson split the United defence.

The second period saw Ten Hag's troops destroyed as Liverpool's revamped front three came together.

Nunez punished the careless United defence by stooping to head in a cross from Harvey Elliott.

Following a quick Liverpool counterattack, Gakpo scored his second goal with a lovely dink over David de Gea.

Things could have turned out even worse for United as Robertson and Ibrahima Konate both saw shots miss the mark.

But Salah scored when he pounced on Nunez's through ball, which bounced off the underside of the bar, earning him credit for his performance.

Then, Nunez headed in his second after Jordan Henderson's cross left him unguarded.

With 129 goals in the Premier League, Salah overtook Sir Alex Ferguson as Liverpool's all-time leading scorer after a more shoddy United defence.

This week it was clear that Roberto Firmino would leave for greener pastures at the end of the current campaign.

The Brazilian, who had been on the bench, scored an incredible seventh goal with two minutes remaining to seal the victory.

Salah Breaks A Record.

Salah, who recently broke another record to cement his place in club history further, is the one constant between Liverpool's past and present.

The Egyptian scored the sixth goal with a straightforward tap-in after crashing a shot off the underside of the crossbar, becoming the Reds' all-time leading Premier League scorer with 129 goals.

"Mo Salah accomplished something genuinely exceptional. We should keep sight of that. He is an outstanding youngster and player", said Klopp.

"We value him today, but when we look back, people will understand just how wonderful he was,"

Klopp has struggled to explain how a club that nearly achieved an unheard-of triple last season could crash so severely and quickly for much of the season.

There won't be a trophy to celebrate at the season's conclusion, barring an incredible comeback against Real Madrid in the round of 16 in the Champions League.

Yet, Liverpool will only have one day to reflect on in 2022–23.

And if this was the day a new scary front three finally came together, it might be even more significant in the coming seasons.
