The leading scorer for the Red Devils, Marcus Rashford, defended Manchester United's effort in a historic 7-0 thumping at the hands of Liverpool, attributing a second-half collapse to a lack of organization.

After giving up six goals in the second half, United suffered their worst defeat in a competitive game since 1931 at Anfield.

Rashford remarked during a pre-game press conference on Wednesday before United's Europa League last 16 first leg against Real Betis, "We didn't give up; that's bullshit.

"Yes, we were disorganized, and our communication was poor, so we gave up the goals".

But ultimately, everyone was so focused on winning that we strayed from the team's values inside and outside of possession.

Bruno Fernandes has come under fire for his demeanour while leading the team during the weekend.

The Portuguese midfielder has frequently played Ten Hag's captain as club captain Harry Maguire has fallen down the hierarchy this season.

Fernandes routinely reprimanded his teammates and, in a rage, even shoved one of the referee's assistants.

But Ten Hag affirmed that if Maguire is not playing, he will continue to serve as captain.

The former Ajax manager declared, "I am really glad to have Bruno Fernandes on my squad, and I'm really excited about thatis our captain, if Harry is not on the pitch".

Before being destroyed by Jurgen Klopp's team, United had only lost once in 22 games.

Ten Hag has already broken a six-year trophy drought by winning the League Cup, and United is still in the running for the Europa League and FA Cup.

Ten Hag said, "We have witnessed the game; now we must reset and recover".

"We succeed together and fail together. We need to clean up the mess we made on Sunday".

However, Manchester United has the record of winning the most matches since the World Cup, with Marcus Rashford being the player with the most goals since the World cup.

The Red Devils are still the only club participating in 3 major tournaments after winning the Carabao Cup by beating Newcastle United.
