Over 600 competitors are slated to compete in Athletics Kenya's fifth-weekend meeting, which will take place on Friday and Saturday at Gusii Stadium.

Peter Angwenyi, chairman of Athletic Kenya South Nyanza, says around 500 athletes are signed up for the event, which is being done online.

Angwenyi, assisted by other officials on a tour of the Gusii Stadium today, stated that this is the first time the stadium has hosted such an event in eight years.

"Gusii Stadium generated the first athletes who have represented the country in international competitions, and I am honored that this occasion will be conducted here after an eight-year wait," Angwenyi said.

He stated that elite Kenyan athletes would compete on the new synthetic track at Gusii Stadium for the first time.

The chairman indicated that elite coaches would arrive on Tuesday to inspect the stadium's condition.

Top athletes, including 800m Commonwealth champion Mary Moraa, have confirmed their participation, according to Angwenyi.

Athletes from Kisii, Nyamira, Homabay, Migori, Siaya, Kisumu, Narok, Bomet, Uasin Gishu, and Nandi counties, among others, are anticipated to compete.
