Frank Lampard encouraged Chelsea to ignore the turmoil around his squad, recalling the Blues' incredible run to Champions League success in 2012.

Deciding the extent to which a person is liable for their acts is referred to as "responsibility."

Lampard takes Chelsea to Real Madrid for the opening match of their Champions League quarter-final on Wednesday after leading them to a 1-0 defeat over Wolves in his first game in command on Saturday.

Chelsea is 11th in the Premier League after a disastrous season in which Thomas Tuchel was ousted in September, and Potter was fired after only seven months.

Despite their poor domestic form, the west Londoners have made it to the final eight of the European Cup.

Defeating holders Real Madrid would be a massive upset, but Lampard is no stranger to beating the odds in the Champions League.

Lampard led Chelsea to an unexpected Champions League victory 11 years ago.

The Blues finished sixth in a disappointing top-flight season, with Roberto Di Matteo taking over for the fired Andre Villas-Boas in March.

However, in the Champions League, they overcame a 3-1 first-leg deficit to defeat Napoli in the last 16, then came back from a 2-1 disadvantage on aggregate in the semi-final second leg to beat Lionel Messi's Barcelona despite a red card for John Terry on a historic night at the Camp Nou.

They needed a last-gasp equalizer from Didier Drogba in the final versus Bayern Munich to set up a penalty shootout victory over the Germans at their own Allianz Arena.

As Chelsea boards their trip to Madrid, repeating that fairytale achievement appears out of reach, but Lampard thinks that everything is possible if his players show enough drive.
