PSG Boosts Security After Protests Target Neymar And Messi

Following fan protests over the team's recent performances, Paris Saint-Germain increased security at the club's training grounds and the homes of Lionel Messi and Neymar.

Several hundred PSG fans gathered outside the club's headquarters on Wednesday evening, setting off smoke flares and chanting anti-Messi, Neymar, and Italian midfielder Marco Verratti.

Some then chanted, "Neymar, get lost" as they marched to Neymar's home in a wealthy suburb west of Paris.

"Whatever one's point of view, nothing justifies such behavior."

Neymar, troubled by injury at PSG and is out until the season's conclusion, responded on Instagram, writing: "Don't let people put you in their storm." Make your peace with them."

According to two anonymous sources, the club opted to beef up security at its training facility and outside the houses of the players targeted during the protests.

Some of the fans had indicated that "they intended to do the identical thing every evening," according to one of the sources.

Based on sources, the demonstrators left "calmly, a few minutes after their arrival" without clashes with police.

Messi's future at PSG was questioned after he was suspended for two weeks for going to Saudi Arabia without permission to fulfil a marketing job.

The 35-year-old World Cup winner's contract expires at the end of the season, and several clubs, including Barcelona, are interested in signing him.

Messi played the entire game as PSG lost 3-1 at home to Lorient in Ligue 1 on Sunday.

He was recently jeered by some PSG fans, who regard him as a symbol of the club - controlled by Qatar Sports Investments, a subsidiary of the Gulf country's sovereign wealth fund - has done wrong by focusing on superstar signings while failing to construct a competitive team.
