Nancy Chelengat has scooped a gold medal after winning the Women’s 1,500 meters T11 race in a time of 4:46.55 at the World Para Athletics Championships.
Chelangat participated in T11 Category to classify para-athletes with visual impairments in the second-largest disability sporting event in the world.
After an outstanding showing at the World Para Athletics Championships at Charlety Stadium in Paris, France, from July 8 to July 17, the ten-member Kericho County Para-Athletics team received an electrifying welcome back to the country.
Kericho County Chief Officer in Charge of Sports Geoffrey Bett welcomed the team at Jomo Kenyatta International Airport and announced that the County government will hold a grand homecoming ceremony in honour of the team.
“This team has made us proud as a County and we must celebrate them and honour them for their outstanding performances,” he said.
The Paralympic track and field competition was organised by the World Para Athletics subcommittee of the International Paralympic Committee, and the squad with distinct talents put on an exciting display of athletic prowess.
The World Para Athletics Championships, held every two years, and this year's competition will feature 1,330 competitors from 107 nations, are the second-most significant sporting event in the calendar of impaired sports after the Paralympic Games.
