According to reports on Thursday, Chelsea has reached an agreement with Premier League rivals Brighton to secure the signing of goalkeeper Robert Sanchez. The deal is reportedly worth £25 million, with additional add-ons included.

Sanchez, who temporarily lost his place to Jason Steele in the latter part of the previous season, is expected to provide competition for Kepa Arrizabalaga following Edouard Mendy's departure to Saudi Arabian club Al-Ahli.

It is understood that the deal entails a £25 million upfront payment and a separate sell-on clause.

When he was at Brighton, Spanish international Sanchez, 25, collaborated with Chelsea goalkeeping coach Ben Roberts. Sept. 2022 saw Roberts depart for Stamford Bridge.

The Blues had their worst Premier League season in nearly 30 years, prompting the hiring of new manager Mauricio Pochettino, who is rebuilding the team.

Brighton is reportedly seeking a £100 million transfer fee for Seagulls midfielder Moises Caicedo, and Chelsea has also been connected with a bid.

They host Liverpool in their home Premier League opener on August 13.
