Following goalkeeper Thibaut Courtois, Eder Militao has become the second Real Madrid player this week to encounter an anterior cruciate ligament (ACL) injury. The LaLiga club has confirmed that the defender will undergo surgery as a result.

Militao sustained an injury during Real's 2-0 victory over Athletic Bilbao on Saturday in their LaLiga debut when he hyperextended his knee early in the second half. As the 25-year-old defender was assisted off the field, he was in tears.

“After the tests carried out on our player Eder Militao, he has been diagnosed with a rupture of the anterior cruciate ligament in his left knee. The player will undergo surgery in the coming days,” the club said.

Similar to Courtois, who also had surgery after rupturing the ACL in his left knee during a training session on Thursday, Militao may be out for several months. Only Nacho, Antonio Ruediger, and David Alaba are available for Real when the new season gets underway due to Militao's injury.
