Godfrey 'Solo' Oduor, the head coach of Harambee Starlets, quit six months after being hired and joined Football Kenya Federation Premier League (FKF-PL) club Nzoia Sugar.

After Charles Okere departed, FKF appointed Oduor to lead the national women's team in March 2023.

Beldine Odemba, the head coach of Kenya Police Bullets in the Kenya Women Premier League (KWPL), is expected to take over at Junior Starlets.

At Nzoia, Oduor, who previously worked for KCB, replaces Salim Babu, who left the Sudi Stadium team to become an assistant coach at Kenya Police FC.

Oduor told Citizen Digita that he left Starlets to focus on his new position at Nzoia.

"It's true that I left my position after finding greener pastures with Nzoia. It was difficult for me to serve two masters simultaneously, so I had to choose whether to continue coaching the national team while declining the Nzoia agreement or vice versa, and I made my choice. "The national team is a part-time job, but in Nzoia it is a full-time job," he explained.

I'm confident I'll be very useful to Nzoia, who finished among the top three teams last season; this time, we want to win the FKF-PL. "I'm confident that the federation will quickly fill the gap, and I have no doubt that the talents we currently have will do wonders," he said.

At Nzoia, Oduor started the 2023/24 league season on a positive note, guiding his troops to a 2-1 victory over Ulinzi Stars at Sudi Stadium in Bungoma.

Oduor leaves Starlets without taking the field after a planned friendly versus Albania in Tirana in April 2023 was canceled due to logistical issues.


The Harambee Starlets will report to camp on September 10, 2023 to begin preparations for the Women Africa Cup of Nations (WAFCON) Qualifiers.

The Starlets will face the Indomitable Lionesses of Cameroon in a two-leg match, with the victor earning a place in the continental competition, which will be held in Morocco next year.

Starlets will begin the first leg in Cameroon on September 22, 2023, and will host the West African giants on September 26, 2023.
