Bukayo Saka, the forward from Arsenal, has clinched the title of England Men's Player of the Year for the second consecutive year, as announced by the English Football Association on Tuesday. Saka, at the age of 22, earned this accolade through fan votes, distinguishing himself as the standout player of the 2022-23 season. He outpaced midfielder Jude Bellingham and striker Harry Kane, who secured the second and third positions, respectively.
Saka scored seven goals in 10 games for England during the past 12 months, including three goals at the 2022 World Cup. Saka made his England debut in October 2020.
He won player of the match honors in England's opening 6-2 victory against Iran in Qatar, as well as the victories over Ukraine and North Macedonia in the Euro 2024 qualifying matches, the latter of which featured his first hat-trick of his professional career.
Saka received the delightful news of his award while at England's training base, St George's Park, as a special surprise to celebrate his 22nd birthday. Notably, he was also recognized as the PFA Young Player of the Season and earned a spot in the PFA Premier League Team of the Year. The England Women's Player of the Year for 2022-23 is set to be revealed later in September, as confirmed by the FA.
