Kenya's Emmanuel Wanyonyi won the men's 800m in a world-leading pace of one minute, 42.80 seconds last night at the Prefontaine Classic in Oregon, USA, claiming his first Diamond League championship.
The two-day event at Hayward Field concluded the 2023 Diamond League circuit, which began in May in Doha, Qatar.
Wanyonyi, the world silver medalist, exacted sweet revenge on Canada's incumbent world champion Marco Arop, who placed second in 1:42.85, with Algeria's DJamel Sedjati finishing third in 1:43.06.
The former global junior champion, who finished second behind Arop at the international Championships in Budapest just over a month ago, also set a new personal best in the two-lap race.

Commonwealth Games champion Beatrice Chebet finished second in the women's 5000m race, posting a new personal best of 14:05.92 behind Ethiopia's Gudaf Tsegay, who established a new world record of 14:00.21, five seconds faster than Kenya's Faith Kipyegon in June.
Chebet climbed to third all-time after finishing slightly outside the previous world record.
Mary Moraa could not recreate her world championship heroics in the women's 800m, as Athing Mu of the United States won in a world-leading time of 1:54.97, while three women set new personal bests and national records.
Keely Hodgkinson of the United Kingdom finished second in 1:55.19, with Natoya Goule-Toppin of Jamaica finishing third in 1:55.96 and Moraa finishing fourth in 1:57.42.
