Kisii County Commissioner Patrick Mukuria corroborated the dramatic incident, stating that the pair, who were on duty then, took the unlawful brew to the station and divided it with the captives.

“Uchunguzi umebaini kwamba maafisa wawili wanaohudumu katika kituo hicho cha polisi walikuwa kazini rasmi na ndipo wakawazia kuwapa mahabusu sherehe ya mvinyo haramu,” he said, as quoted by Taifa Leo publication.

Mr. Mukuria identified the detainees as Mathew Omanga and David Mboga, both suspected of murder, whom the court had imprisoned until the completion of investigations.

The police chief claimed that noises and singing could be heard coming from the station, causing senior officers to stop by, only to discover the two cops and the accused were all intoxicated.

"Ndipo maafisa hao wawili walipatikana wakiwa walevi chakari huku wakiimba nyimbo za ukombozi, nao mahabusu wakiwa katika hali hiyo hiyo nao wakitandaza ngoma za kujituliza masaibu wakiwa hoi katika seli zao," Mr. Mukuria said

An investigation by the senior detectives revealed an empty container suspected of being used to transport the alcohol.
