The Azimio La Umoja One Kenya coalition on Tuesday told foreign nations to keep off Kenya’s affairs.

This comes after the US Justice Dept welcomed President William Ruto’s move to appeal the verdict on deploying security forces to Haiti.

Azimio La Umoja One Coalition Co-principal Martha Karua called for the respect of the independence of the judiciary.

“We take note of the support expressed by the United States government for the Ruto regime to appeal against the ruling on the deployment of police to Haiti,” she said.

Further, she urged all parties to respect the independence of the judiciary.

“It is our hope that all parties shall respect the Independence of the Judiciary and that foreign Interest will keep off our national affairs,” Karua said.

In its ruling, the High Court stated that the deployment of Kenyan police to Haiti was unconstitutional, a decision that has cast uncertainty over the UN-backed mission aimed at addressing gang violence.

The Spokesperson for the U.S. Department of State, Matthew Miller, said President Joe Biden's government supports Kenya’s state decision to challenge the case before the high court, stating its commitment to the ongoing peace efforts in Haiti.

“We reaffirm our support of ongoing international efforts to deploy a Multinational Security Support mission for Haiti, as requested by Haiti and authorized by UN Security Council Resolution 2699, and renew our calls for the international community to urgently provide support for this mission,” Miller said
