Police have arrested two suspects believed to have been part of a gang that raped and killed a middle-aged woman at Kipsamoi village in Kericho County on Thursday night.

According to junior police officers attached to the Sondu police station who spoke anonymously, the two were arrested in their hideout after a tipoff from members of the public.

The suspects are said to have waylaid the woman as she was heading home at night from a drinking spree.

According to police, they allegedly dragged her to a nearby field belonging to one of the residents and raped her in turns.

After committing the act, the suspects, who are believed to have been positively identified by the drunk woman, allegedly dragged her to a nearby nappier grass farm near her house, where they murdered her.

The suspects then fled to an unknown destination, and the two suspects were arrested early Friday and taken to Sondu police station.

The officers revealed that they were following crucial leads, which would lead to the arrest of other suspects believed to have been involved in the incident.

Family members of the deceased discovered the body of the woman and raised the alarm, which attracted the attention of other villagers who rushed to the scene and witnessed the matter.

The incident was later reported at the Sondu police station where police officers rushed to the scene and moved the body to the Sigowet Sub-county Hospital mortuary.

The suspects are set to be arraigned next week.
