A family in Machakos County breathed a sigh of relief after a National Police Service (NPS) helicopter rescued their five-year-old son who had been stranded by floods in Nduani, Yatta sub-county.
The minor was reportedly left stranded by his father after becoming trapped by rising flood waters caused by the area's ongoing heavy rains.
According to NPS, a response team from Wilson Airport rescued him after Machakos Deputy Governor Francis Mwangangi called the Inspector General of Police in distress.

“The National Police Service (NPS) Airwing Officers have this afternoon saved the life of a five-year-old boy named Mutuku Kioko, who was marooned by floods at Nduani in Yatta, Machakos County following the flooding caused by the ongoing heavy rains that have impounded the area,” NPS said in a statement.
“NPS pilots under Captain Chief Inspector Evans Okoth, First Officer Captain Chief Inspector Loise Wangui and Flight Engineer Mr. Bernard Orimba, Superintendent of Police responded to the emergency in the flight from Wilson Airport and rescued the baby who had been left behind by his father Martin Kioko when the water level started rising. The baby has been safely reunited with his family.”
The police service has since praised the operation teams who contributed to the success of their search, which resulted in the boy's reunion with his family.
“NPS wishes to thank the Deputy Governor Machakos County Hon. Francis Mwangangi who on behalf of the people of Nduani, made that emergency and timely call to the Inspector General IG Japhet Koome, and further reiterate our commitment to protect life and property,” added the statement.
