The Meteorological Department has announced that some parts of the country will experience reduced rainfall later this week.

The department's forecast for May 7 to May 13 predicts significant rain in the Highlands East and West of the Rift Valley, the Lake Victoria Basin, and the Rift Valley for the first half of the week.

However, rain intensity across the country is expected to decrease over the second half of the week.

Morning showers are expected to fall in the Highlands West of the Rift Valley, the Lake Victoria Basin, and the Rift Valley early this week.

Early in the week, morning rains, afternoon and night showers, and thunderstorms are forecast in a few areas of northwestern Kenya, followed by sunny intervals.

The Highlands East of the Rift Valley will have morning rainfall in a few areas throughout the first part of the week.

Several locations will have afternoon and night showers and thunderstorms throughout the first part of the week, with just a few remaining after that.

Morning rains will fall in North-eastern Kenya, followed by afternoon and night showers and thunderstorms in a few locations, before sunny intervals in the second half of the predicted period.

The region will receive some sunshine over the rest of the week.

In the Coast region, afternoon and night rains are forecast in a few areas, occasionally extending to several locations.

The Met Department warned of ongoing flooding in low-lying regions, flood plains, and urban areas with poor drainage.

The death toll from floods has risen to 228, 164 people were injured, and 212,630 were displaced.
