The High Court has temporarily halted the commission of inquiry into the Shakahola tragedy from convening until the outcome of a challenge brought by the Azimio La Umoja One Kenya alliance is resolved.

Justice Lawrence Mugambi has instructed the commission to convene once he issues new instructions on Monday.

Azimio, through his lawyer Paul Mwangi, has contested the commission's formation, claiming that President William Ruto violated the constitution and usurped the powers of other state agencies.

Azimio also criticized the nomination of Lady Justice Jessie Lessit to lead the panel, claiming that it would jeopardize the judge's independence and that if issues involving the Executive came before her, she would likely favour her appointing authorities.
