A man, after being found guilty of manslaughter instead of murder, a Murang'a man convicted of killing his wife due to alleged infidelity, was given a three-year probationary sentence.

According to court documents, James Kimani, who had a troubled past and a history of alcohol and drug abuse as a youth, was enraged by claims that his wife had an extramarital affair.
His wife, Beatrice Mukami, and their two children from a previous relationship shared a rental home with him.
A rumour was that she was dating one of the children's fathers.

The rumours offended Kimani, and on the evening of April 3, 2013, he returned home intoxicated and had a conflict with his wife.
Kimani killed his wife by stabbing her to death after becoming furious and enraged.
He became aware of what he had done when he ran away. Later, he would be detained and accused of murder.
He admitted responsibility for the crime at his first trial and said his wife's passing tormented him.
After being accused of murder, he was detained for seven years before appealing.
He agreed to a plea agreement with the ODPP in September of last year, reiterating his admission and attributing his deeds to his rage.
"In mitigation, the accused indicated that he was a first offender and had been in custody for the last seven years during which length of time, he had pondered over his life and was remorseful. He requested a non-incarcerative sentence, "the documents said.
The charge was later downgraded to manslaughter by the prosecution. In November 2022, the court recorded his plea agreement after accepting it.
He was repentant, according to a presentencing report introduced in court.
Judge James Wakiaga directed that the man should be let go after serving a three-year non-custodial sentence.
