Evans Kidero, a former governor of Nairobi, has rebuffed opponents who say he is frantically looking for a government position.

Dr Kidero, who ran for but lost the governorship of Homa Bay to Gladys Wanga, declared he was not interested in holding a position of authority in the government to receive a salary and support his family. Instead, he wants to be somewhere where he can help Kenyans.

According to Dr Kidero, he applied to be a state officer. His application was made to help the community, not to make money.

"I don't necessarily need to work to get by. I have enough material wealth to get me through," he declared in a Tuesday night broadcast on Ramogi TV.

He had gone through a Routine job interview with the Public Service Commission.

He is interested in a position where he may use his skills to assist people, said Dr Kidero.

"There are jobs that are supposed to support you. Then there are careers like becoming a preacher that one uses to help the community. I'm interested in it, the doctor remarked.

The previous county chief held various government posts, including managing director at Mumias Sugar Company.

However, his management style at the facility has drawn criticism because some believe he is to blame for the miller's problems.

In 2013, he was chosen to serve as Nairobi's first governor. In 2017, Mike Sonko won the same position back.

After taking a five-year vacation, Dr Kidero tried his luck in Homa Bay, where he ran as an independent for the position of governor.

Last Monday, the High Court concluded that his primary opponent, Ms Wanga, had been legitimately elected.

His name appeared in the press, announcing that he had been shortlisted for the Chief Administrative Secretary (CAS) position while the court case was still going on.

In contrast to ODM, which he claimed did not support democracy despite its name suggesting so, the former governor has since allied himself with President William Ruto's UDA party, which he regarded as visionary.

He first backed Mr Odinga wholeheartedly. Even life membership in ODM was given to Dr Kidero.
