Students joining various universities and learning institutions in the country can now apply for the higher education loans and bursaries.
This is after the Higher Education Loans Board (HELB) opened its online portal for students seeking scholarships.
HELB Chief Executive Officer(CEO) Charles Ringera revealed that the platform was opened on Monday at midnight.
Speaking on Citizen TV on Tuesday, he said students seeking to benefit from the government funding have until August 27, 2023, to submit their applications before the window closes.
“Applications for scholarships, loans and bursaries opened last night at midnight… we close that application on the 27th of this month,” he said.

Mr Ringera informed applicants that the platform would need them to submit necessary documents such as their Identity Cards (IDs), the IDs of their parents or guardians, and admission documents from the institutions where they would be enrolled.
On the same platform, Dr Agnes Wahome, CEO of Kenya Universities and Colleges Central Placement Service (KUCCPS), announced that the transfer window, which allows students and applicants to switch courses and institutions, will open the following week.
In light of the moves, Ringera urged people looking for government funding to take into account the transfer of institutions because the two services would be able to coexist peacefully.
“As the data of KUCCPS is changing, it changes straight away on the platform for funding; even if they change, then straight away it will change on the platform of funding, meaning by the time the student is applying in another institution, then we can seamlessly see the information coming through,” he explained.
The Kenya Medical Training Colleges (KMTC) and primary Teacher Training Courses (TTC) accept applications from now through Friday, August 4.
