To mobilize Mount Kenya leaders behind Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua, former Kieni MP Kanini Kega and Nyeri Governor Mutahi Kahiga met on Friday.

To back and promote Mr Gachagua as the top politician and political figure in the region, the two made plans to meet with leaders of the Azimio la Umoja One Kenya Coalition and Kenya Kwanza Alliance.

Mr Kega made it known in his political group, the Jubilee Party, led by former president Uhuru Kenyatta, that he would back the region's unification behind the DP."But people have been misconstruing that we are quitting our political parties to join another political formation," Mr Kega said. "We will all be anchored under that canopy. The most senior politician we have at the moment in Mt Kenya is none other than DP Rigathi Gachagua.

Mr Kega's action gives validity to rumours that the Jubilee Party may leave the Azimio La Umoja One Kenya Coalition to collaborate with Kenya Kwanza in advance of the 2027 elections.

However, Mr Kega did not confirm or refute allegations that the Jubilee Party intended to collaborate with President William Ruto's Kenya Kwanza.

"I want to be clear that we are currently assembling in our attire. Let's work on those other things in the future. I am now a Jubilee Party member and am joining this unity. He continued, as the Jubilee Party's director of elections, I am present.

Mr Kega, a candidate for the East African Legislative Assembly (EALA), spoke at the governor's office in Nyeri after paying him a courtesy visit.
