Bayern Munich punished striker Sadio Mane for one game on Thursday after an argument with Leroy Sane during this week's Champions League loss to Manchester City.

According to Bild, former City winger Sane was smacked in the face by Senegal forward, resulting in a cut lip after Tuesday's defeat.

"Sadio Mane, 31, will not be in FC Bayern's squad for the home game against 1899 Hoffenheim next Saturday," Bayern announced.

"The reason is Mane's misconduct following FC Bayern's Champions League game against Manchester City."

"To add on that, Mane will receive a fine," they said.

Bayern has refused to comment on the incident.

According to Bild, the brawl began during Bayern's defeat in Manchester, with the film showing the two shouting on the field.

Mane and Sane were seen on the practice field early on Thursday.

Bayern's Champions League defeat was their worst since 2017.

The six-time European champions have little chance of overcoming the deficit in the return match in Munich to advance to the semi-finals.

Mane, 31, has had a difficult time since joining the Bundesliga winners from Liverpool in the summer of 2022.

The two-time African Player of the Year garnered six goals in his first seven matches for Bayern in all competitions but has yet to score since October.

Mane suffered a leg injury in November, ruling him out of Senegal's World Cup campaign in Qatar and causing him to miss nine Bayern matches.
