In 29 minutes, Moroccan midfielder Sofiane Boufal, a former Southampton star now on the field for Al Rayyan in Qatar, gave his country the lead with a decisive turn and drove off a feed from Bilal El Khannous.

In the 67th minute, Casemiro, the captain of Brazil, equalized when goalkeeper Yassine Bounou mishandled his feeble attempt.

Abdelhamid Sabiri, a midfielder on loan from Sampdoria, scored the game-winning goal with a volley in the 79th minute to give Morocco the victory and prove that they weren't the first Arab or African country to go to the World Cup semifinals by accident.

Casemiro of Manchester United remarked, "I wouldn't say we lacked comprehension, it's about putting the ideas of a new coach into practice".

"I believe we played well and went above and above to win the game."

Only 10 of the 23-man team that led Brazil to a dispiriting World Cup quarterfinal elimination travelled to Morocco for the match.

The injured Neymar was absent again, and Real Madrid's youngster Rodrygo received the number 10 jersey.

Morocco had lost their only two encounters with Brazil, 2-0 in a friendly in 1997 & 3-0 in the opening phase of the France 1998 Tournament. It all changed on Saturday.
