During the visit of a World Health Organization (WHO) delegation, the Pharmacy and Poisons Board highlighted the importance of local production and strengthening regulatory systems. Kenya aims to become a significant regional hub for the manufacture of pharmaceuticals and healthcare equipment, to reduce costs and ensure universal access to healthcare for its citizens.

Dr. Charles Githinji, Chairman of the PPB, emphasized the critical role of local manufacturing in providing affordable healthcare to all Kenyans.

The Chairman reiterated the government's dedication to promoting domestic pharmaceutical production, in line with the "Bottom Up Economic Transformation Agenda" set out in the Kenya Kwanza Manifesto.

Fitch and the World Bank reports suggest that Kenya is a promising market for medical equipment, with one of the fastest-growing economies in sub-Saharan Africa.

The pharmaceutical industry in Kenya is rapidly expanding, providing significant opportunities for businesses to grow their products and services, either through direct manufacturing or indirectly through local distribution channels.

Kenya is currently the leading manufacturer of pharmaceutical products, supplying almost half of the market in the COMESA region.
