World Chambers Federation/International Chamber of Commerce (WCF) has shortlisted Nairobi Securities Exchange(NSE) chairman Kiprono Kittony for its Chairperson post.

Kittony is among six finalists whose candidacy is being reviewed by the Paris-based organization that serves as a global umbrella body of the Chambers movement worldwide.

The other finalists are Jean-Pierre Anielo (Bolivia), A.K. Azad (Bangladesh), Rifat Hisarciklioglu (Turkey), Toki Mabogunje (Nigeria) and Rim Siam (Egypt).

“I’m delighted to offer my leadership. If successful, this will be a great opportunity to attract investors to Kenya and drive growth in the value and volume of our exports,” Kittony said in a statement.

The Kenya National Chamber of Commerce and Industry (KNCCI), a WCF member, supports Kittony’s candidacy.

In a statement, KNCCI President Erick Rutto credited Kittony with the institution's revival during his time as Chairman.

“He is widely credited with the revival of KNCCI. His candidacy has been endorsed widely and if he succeeds, he will be the first business leader from the continent to ascend to this position,” he said.

He has previously served as the Chairman of KNCCI and the Vice Chair representing Africa at WCF.

Further, he is Radio Africa Group's founder chairman and Capital Realtime's CEO, among others.

Kittony holds a Bachelor of Commerce and Bachelor of Law degrees from the University of Nairobi.
