Former Nairobi governor Mike Sonko has made shocking revelations about the widespread corruption he encountered during his tenure in office. He exposed staggering bribery attempts, disclosing that he was offered an astonishing sum of KSh 50 million in cash bribes daily from the county revenue collection center.
During an interview with Andrew Kibe, Sonko outlined his relentless efforts to combat the systemic corruption, including his decision to escalate the matter to former President Uhuru Kenyatta. Despite initial skepticism, Uhuru responded decisively by dispatching officers from the Ethics and Anti-Corruption Commission (EACC) to conduct an investigation.
Sonko's disclosures galvanized the national government into action, prompting the launch of an online revenue collection platform aimed at rooting out corruption within the system.
Nevertheless, despite his proactive measures, Sonko expressed frustration at being associated with corruption cases, emphasizing his unwavering commitment to the welfare of the county and vehemently denying any involvement in the embezzlement of public funds.
