Former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua has issued a stern warning to Deputy Inspector General of Police Eliud Lagat, vowing to pursue legal action against him should the Democracy for the Citizens Party (DCP) rise to power.

Speaking during a rally in Githunguri Constituency, Kiambu County, on Thursday, June 12, 2025, Gachagua accused Lagat of leading a targeted crackdown on government critics and claimed he is being used as a tool to intimidate those opposing President William Ruto’s administration.

“It is this Lagat that is being used to go after all the people saying Ruto is a one-term president,” Gachagua told the crowd.

“I want to tell him and every other officer in the DCI being used by this regime—when we take charge of this government, you will have to face the court of law.”

Gachagua, who now leads the newly formed DCP, also linked Lagat to recent violent disruptions at his rallies, alleging that state agencies are orchestrating a campaign of political harassment.

Githunguri MP Gathoni Wamuchomba echoed Gachagua’s accusations during the same event. She strongly condemned police brutality and called on the government to end what she described as state-sponsored violence targeting young Kenyans.

Wamuchomba issued a powerful ultimatum, declaring that if Lagat is not held accountable for the death of Albert Ojwang’, she would lead a national women-led protest.

“If he (Lagat) will not resign, then I will lead all mothers in Kenya in demonstrations over the killing and maiming of our young people. Enough is enough,” she said.

The remarks signal rising political tensions and growing public frustration over alleged abuse of power by security agencies.
