The County government of Makueni targets deworming more than one million residents against worms and bilharzia from June 8th to June 11th, 2023.
The exercise is a partnership between the Department of Health in Makueni County and the World Health Organization (WHO).
Makueni County Health Executive Committee Member Paul Musila said they intend to reach out to 1,076,686 residents aged one year upwards.
“This exercise will be conducted in all our health facilities, schools, homes, markets, churches, and mosques across the county by community drug distributors (health promoters),” said Musila.
“The deworming will be done for people aged one year and above, while bilharzia drugs will be administered to people aged 5 years and above,” he added.

He noted that bilharzia is connected to chronic liver disorders, while soil helminths (worms) are responsible for the county's growing anaemia.
The CEC urged the neighbourhood to participate enthusiastically in the exercise, stating that it would be free of charge to make it a success.
He said the deworming was also occurring in Machakos, Kitui, Meru, and Tharaka Nithi counties.
