Police in Kisumu have launched an investigation into the killing of a homeless woman, believed to be suffering from mental health issues, in Manyatta estate.

According to police, the locals found the woman’s body opposite Manyatta primary school with evident wounds, including panga cuts on her thighs and a slit throat; they believe she was raped.

Signs of a struggle were also found at the scene of the incident.

Further, the residents say the woman may have been subjected to sexual assault by her attackers before being killed.

Kondele, acting Officer in Charge of Police Station (OCS), Daniel Ongachi, arrived at the crime scene and appealed for information from the local community to aid in identifying and locating the culprits.

“This type of killing is unacceptable. It is an act carried out by individuals from within our community; some of them resort to using narcotics to commit such heinous crimes,” he stated.

He has vowed to collaborate with the local residents to eliminate criminal elements within the Kondele ward and urged residents to assist.

“I seek your support to ensure that such individuals who carried out this crime do not live among us,” he said.

The body has been transported to the Jaramogi Oginga Odinga Teaching and Referral Hospital mortuary, awaiting a post-mortem examination.
