In the Malgis area of Laisamis Constituency, on the Marsabit-Isiolo highway, a highway banditry attack resulted in the shooting death of a police officer on Thursday night.

Before they were overpowered, the incident, which took place 40 kilometers west of the county security headquarters, required the combined efforts of the Laisamis security team and the Logologo police officers.

Twenty-five herds of cattle were driven off by the bandits during the raid, leaving a trail of blood, shocking witnesses, and posing a security risk to the highway.

Nobert Komora, the commissioner for Marsabit County, confirmed the incident and stated that his officers are still pursuing the bandits to retrieve the livestock that was taken.

"Based on preliminary investigations, it appears that at approximately 15:45 hours, the officers escorting Merille were shot at. Although they attempted to react, they were overpowered," the spokesperson stated.

The other police officer was hit in the head and sustained injuries, while the drivers of the two trucks suffered injuries to their hip and foot, respectively.

Upon their subsequent visit, the backup security team searched the area and discovered 20 7.62*51mm cartridges.

There was still a lot of tension in the area when the attackers stole two of the officers' G3 rifles.

The three injured people are currently in stable condition and were referred from Laisamis to the Isiolo hospital for additional medication.

Paul Rotich, the Eastern Regional Commissioner, confirmed intentions to reinstall the barriers in an interview with Citizen Digital.

Additionally, Mr. Rotich suggested increasing the number of highway patrols on the Marsabit-Isiolo route to prevent more attacks on innocent Kenyan drivers.

The highway has been quiet for a year, but sadly, cattle rustlers are daring us to move our chess pieces quickly. The head of police declared, "We will go back to using roadblocks to deal with drug dealers, bandits, and aliens in equal measure."
