On Tuesday, a Nairobi-based man was sentenced to 60 years in prison for defiling a two-year-old child.

Alianda Atseka, the accused, appeared in Kibera Law Courts and was charged with two counts of defilement and committing an indecent act with a child.

The offenses were committed by Atseka on July 25, 2022, according to the Office of the Director of Public Prosecutions (ODPP).

He allegedly lured the minor to his house by pretending to buy candy for him.

"On July 25 2022, the accused person is said to have lured the minor from where she was playing with her friends," said the ODPP in a statement.

The prosecution, represented by Ms. Jane Gitahi, called seven witnesses to testify about the incident.

When the accused was allowed to defend himself, he could not refute the prosecution's case.
