CCTV footage near the scene where the body of a 20-year-old was found dismembered has given detectives a clue into who the main suspect in the brutal murder could be.

For more than six hours, detectives went from house to house and shop to shop, looking for evidence to help track down the perpetrator, who is still at large.

CCTV footage obtained by Citizen TV and reviewed by authorities recorded the suspect moments before allegedly committing the crime.

The suspect is seen walking while chatting on the phone outside a shop near to the building where the body parts were discovered on the video, which was taken around 4:20 p.m. on Saturday.

He walks straight to the checkout and delivers him his phone, after which the cashier hands him a key and returns his phone.

A black bag was firmly in his grip. The suspect, who was wearing a white cap and specs, seemed hurried. He returned five minutes later and gave over the money to the cashier before departing.

This was the last time the culprit was apprehended. He was supposed to return the keys on Sunday morning but didn't.

Risper Muthoni, the owner of the Airbnb home, said she received a call from the carer who discovered body pieces inside the trash bag in the residence.

The bones that were carried to City Mortuary have subsequently been positively identified by the deceased's family, who declined to speak to the media and claimed they are still waiting for police to complete their investigations.
