a Kenyan man wanted in the United States for allegedly killing his girlfriend Margaret Mbitu, has been detained for 30 days as detectives seek to extradite her.

While holding Kevin Kangethe at Muthaiga police station, the court noted that the Office of the Director of Public Prosecutions' appeal regarding the nature of the offense was not objectionable.

Kang'ethe was charged with killing the woman in October of last year.

Furthermore, the DPP informed the court that many petitions would be made, including one for extradition to the United States to face murder accusations.

"There being no objection and owing to the fact that DPP wants to extradite the suspect and the seriousness of this matter the accused is hereby detained at Muthaiga Police Station matter to be mentioned on 4th of March," the magistrate said.

According to the DCI, the suspect and the dead were both Massachusetts residents who were reportedly in a relationship.

Preliminary findings show that Kang'ethe viciously attacked and repeatedly stabbed the woman in the face and neck, causing catastrophic injuries that ultimately led to her death.

Furthermore, the court was informed that when the suspect returned to Kenya, he went into hiding and allegedly maintained frequent contact with his acquaintances in the United States and a few of his relatives and friends in Kenya using multiple phone lines.

The prosecution also claimed that the suspect has no fixed address because he was not spotted at his residence in Thogoto, Kiambu County, after fleeing the United States.
