Residents in Kisauni constituency, Mombasa county, were shocked when robbers broke into the mosque and stole two coffins.
According to a statement released by a local official, Mohamed Hamid, the two stolen aluminum coffins were taken from the Marhaba mosque in Bakarani.
He said they discovered the coffins were gone on Thursday while preparing to use one for a burial ceremony at the mosque.

The head of Frere town, Twalib Dola, verified the occurrence, stating that ten iron sheets were also stolen.
Dola stated that the incident was reported to the Mbungoni police station.
He advised local company owners who sell scrap metals to file a report if the metallic caskets are sold to them.
Hamid said the mosque intends to hold special prayers to condemn those engaged in the theft, which they claim has never happened in the area before.
