Police officers in Mulot have arrested two suspected of being part of a SIM card fraud syndicate operating in Bomet, Kericho, and Nakuru Counties.

On Wednesday, the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) announced that Kevin Kiplangat, aka Elvis, 31, and Evan Kiprotich Chirchir as Protio, 22, were arrested in Bomet's Mulot and Chepalungu neighborhoods, respectively.

"Kevin Kiplangat, aka Elvis, 31, and Evan Kiprotich Chirchir, aka Protio, 22, were arrested in Mulot and Chepalungu areas of Bomet, respectively." DCI posted

"The ongoing operation is spearheaded by detectives from DCI Headquarters, following numerous complaints of sim swap fraud by known gang members, most of whom have ongoing court cases across the country," they added.

SUSPECTS OF ROBBERY, SIM SWAP FRAUD NABBED IN BOMET


The DCI notes that the two were seized in response to public complaints about sim swap fraud. They are being held at the Litein Police Station pending arraignment in the Kericho Law Courts for a violent robbery on December 29, 2023.

According to the DCI, the suspects will be handled at other stations where electronic fraud cases involving them have been reported.
