Two police officers appeared before the Isiolo Anti-Corruption Court on charges of bribery and robbery with violence.
The Ethics and Anti-Corruption Commission reported that policemen David Irungu and Hassan Liban Hassan, stationed at Merti Sub-County in Isiolo, allegedly requested a payment of Ksh.50,000 from a suspect they had apprehended on suspicion of belonging to the outlawed Al-Shabaab group.
They allegedly demanded the bribe as a condition for releasing the suspect.

While armed with a weapon, they allegedly frisked the complainant and stole an extra Kes. 57,000.
Both defendants pled not guilty to the bribery and robbery with violence accusations.
They were later released on a cash bail of Ksh.300,000 or a surety bond of Ksh.500,000. The lawsuit is set for a hearing on May 27, 2023.
