Bandits have killed one person after they stormed the Lolmolog area just a few kilometers from Morijo, Samburu county, where the late Angata Nyanyokie MCA Paul Leshimpiro was being buried.
The attack, which occurred 60 miles from the burial site, portrayed a picture of despair among villagers as bandit raids persisted unabated.
Samburu elders who attended the funeral slammed the government for its laxity in combating banditry in the region.
They urged Interior Cabinet Secretary Kithure Kindiki to devise a strategy to address the attacks, which have killed over 200 people, displaced hundreds of families, and devastated the local economy.
Samburu Governor Lati Lelelit said that Prof Kindiki refused to meet with local leaders to discuss the region's insecurity.
"As leaders, we have suggestions and opinions we believe can end the insecurity in Samburu. Please, we need a meeting with you," pleaded the governor.
CS Kindiki stated that measures were planned to examine the ongoing security operation in the region and strengthen security forces.
However, the governor proposed that the CS begin by deploying security officers in regions identified as hot spots to contain the escalating instability.
"Rapid Deployment Unit and Administration Police are more suitable to deal with the bandits in areas we have identified as troubled spots," he said.
