A police officer in Narok county is under investigation after he opened fire inside a wine and spirits shop after his phone was taken for failing to pay a Ksh.2,220 bill.

According to a police complaint, Dennis Imai went to JJ Wines and Spirits at 6 p.m. on Sunday, and Jackline Jemeli quickly grabbed his phone for the prior beer bill.

"The said police officer left the beer den only to re-emerge 30 minutes later in full uniform and armed with a rifle in company of unknown bodaboda rider," according to the police report.

Imai is claimed to have demanded his phone back, and when the attendant refused, he opened fire, and the boda-boda rider took him away.

Officers who attended the area failed to collect the expended cartridge because they believed the officer had taken it before departing.

There were no injuries recorded.
