A case against businessman Parminder Singh Manku, who was accused of stealing more than Ksh.71 million from his partners, was dropped by a Nairobi court.
In accordance with Criminal Procedure Code section 87(a), the court withdrew the case. It also mandated the release of the cash bail he had deposited.
The prosecution informed the court that the charges against Manku were of a civil nature and that they did not plan to pursue the case when the matter was brought up for discussion on Monday.
Manku was accused of three counts of theft, forgery, and lying to a bank about being the only signatory to the company on a false document in front of Nairobi Senior Principal Magistrate Robinson Ondieki.

The defence contended that there was never any money taken or misused from Elite Earth Movers. They added that the accusations were made up and restated falsehoods.

“The criminal case came about because Lalji Meghji gave Elite a subcontract and they were not performing and Lalji paid elite about Ksh.200 million and work done was about Ksh.130 million furthermore Lalji Meghji paid Elite Ksh.60 Million goods allegedly acquired off site by Pravin. Upon being asked to produce the goods he couldn’t,” said the defence.
