The Pharmacy and Poisons Board has apprehended individuals in an illicit pharmaceutical distribution ring operating without a license in Kajiado County.

According to the board, a crackdown was initiated on certain locations in the county after accusations surfaced that pharmaceuticals from public healthcare institutions were being plundered and privately marketed.

The establishments were discovered to be unauthorized and were providing drugs without board clearance.

"The stolen pharmaceuticals were found in unlicensed chemists, posing serious health risks to the public due to their unregulated handling and distribution. These medicines, intended for public use, had been illegally diverted for commercial gain," said the
board.

"The commodities have been confiscated for use as exhibits during prosecution. Those found guilty will face stringent penalties as per the penal code and other applicable laws."

Meanwhile, an additional investigation has been begun for other suspects who are thought to be participating in unlawful activities and are still at large.

This comes amid a statewide campaign that has resulted in the arrest of 35 people, the closure of 50 facilities, and the seizure of 150 boxes of various health items and technology.

Members of the public have also been encouraged to take cautious and only buy drugs from licenced and trustworthy vendors.
