Police in Suba, Homa Bay County, are investigating a case in which a man unexpectedly buried his 5-month-old baby at his home in Nyaburu village.

The incident occurred on Thursday night, with reports indicating that the middle-aged man buried his daughter alone at his compound.

On Friday, neighbors went to the man's house and discovered a shallow grave behind it, where he had buried the minor. They alerted the area assistant chief, Winnie Boit, who went to the man's house with officers from the Magunga police station.

During interrogation, the lone man admitted to burying the baby in a shallow grave with clothes.

According to Boit, the suspect stated that the baby became ill on Thursday night, died on the same night, and he chose to bury her alone on the same night.

According to the administrator, the man has been living alone with his three children since his wife returned to her parent's home for medication following an epileptic attack.

The suspect was immediately arrested and taken to the Magunga police station, where he is being held.

The baby's body will be exhumed on Monday following a court order for a postmortem.
