A 25-year-old man has been arrested in connection to the brutal murder of a Chandarana Supermarket manager stationed at the Buffalo Mall in Naivasha last May.

Joseph Mungai Wanjira allegedly committed the crime on May 22, eluding investigators for over two weeks until he was forced to leave his hiding in Naivasha town.

"In the May 22 incident, workers at the supermarket had arrived at the Mall early that morning, hoping to find the doors open as was the norm. After waiting up long enough, they decided to call the manager on duty, Hassan Abdullatif Salim, to find out why he was taking too long to report to work," the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) said in a statement.

"His phone went unanswered, prompting a few supervisors to check him out at his house."

When the Chandarana authorities arrived at Salim's residence, they discovered bloodstains on the threshold. They then called police officials, who came on the spot, smashed down the door, and discovered the deceased's motionless corpse in a pool of blood.

"Signs of struggle depicting an attack were evident, with various household items notably missing. Crucial evidence including the retrieval of CCTV footages were obtained and the scene documented by CSI detectives, as pursuit for the perpetrator(s) commenced," said the DCI.

"Today, intelligence analysis gave away the prime suspect, in whose possession were found most of the items stolen from the deceased's house including a TV set, a 6kg Pro Gas, a Samsung tablet, a hoodie branded NASA and a blood-stained bag."

Following a brief questioning, Wanjira took officers to Salim's home, where he identified a kitchen knife and a piece of wood as the murder weapons.

He remains in detention until his arraignment, when he will be charged with robbery with violence.
