A middle-aged appeared before a Kisii court on allegations of defrauding nuns at a convent of more than Ksh.3.4 million in Keroka, Nyamira County.
The court ordered that Edwin Ontomwa, 30, be held for an additional seven days to enable the completion of the incident investigation.
The court heard that Ontwoma and other suspects contacted the nuns at Ichuni convent in Masaba South, Kisii County, claiming they required money to create a key to unlock a rare treasure box delivered to them from the United States.

A senior detective investigating the investigation claimed two additional suspects are still being sought in the case, adding that Ontwoma is tied to a syndicate of cons operating from Nairobi and Migori.
A forensic assessment of the suspect's phone will be conducted as part of the investigation into the event, and he might face cybercrime charges.
Ontwoma was detained when he returned to the convent on Tuesday evening to get additional money before appearing before Chief Magistrate Eunice Nyutu at Keroka Law Courts on Wednesday morning.
