Police in Homa Bay County have arrested a 16-year-old student for allegedly hacking his mother to death using a machete in Kitare Village.

Confirming the incident, Kayanja Sub Location Assistant Chief Moses Sirawa, said the form four student at Nyatoto Mixed Secondary School is said to have killed his 39-year-old mother, identified as Nelis Ogutu.

Further, he said the suspect arrived home from school on Thursday evening and attacked his mother immediately after evening meals.

Sirawa says investigators suspect that the boy could have committed the heinous act out of mental problems.

He first strangled the deceased before hacking her with a machete for an unknown reason.

Members of the community who heard the commotion at the widow’s home rushed to the scene and apprehended the suspect at Mbita police station.

The body of the deceased was taken to Kirindo mortuary.
