Detectives from the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) in Kisii are currently investigating a case involving the suspected vandalism of vehicles impounded at Nyanchwa Police Station in Kitutu Central, as well as the illegal sale of their parts.

According to a police report obtained by Citizen TV, a recent incident involved the impounding of a lorry with registration number KBT 651 following a road accident along the Kisii-Oyugis Road. Traffic officers directed the vehicle to be towed to Nyanchwa Police Station for further investigation.

However, upon the lorry owner's visit to the station, it was discovered that parts of the vehicle were missing. This discovery raised concerns among DCI officers.


Acting on intelligence, DCI officers proceeded to the Denmark area along the Kisii-Oyugis Road, where they found a local spare parts dealer in possession of the stolen lorry parts. The incident caused uproar and highlighted concerns about the safety of vehicles stored in the station's car yard.

The spare parts dealer allegedly acquired the stolen parts, valued at half a million shillings, for a mere Ksh.18,000. Subsequently, both the dealer and a senior officer from the precinct, reportedly linked to the incident, have been arrested.

The situation has drawn criticism from senior police officers in Kisii, who expressed dismay over the tarnishing of the police force's reputation.

"This is a regrettable situation, and we will not shield anyone. While we have dedicated officers doing exemplary work, we must address this issue and let the law take its course," remarked Nyanchwa OCPD Kazungu Charo in an interview with Citizen TV.


The incident underscores broader concerns as various police stations have faced complaints from the public regarding missing car parts from vehicles stored or seized within their premises. This has prompted calls for a thorough investigation to determine if there is an organized scheme at play.

It is alarming that a police station has become a crime scene, prompting DCI officers to pledge to investigate not only the Nyanchwa precinct but also other stations across Kisii County.
