On Thursday, detectives from the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) in Kilifi County intercepted a vehicle transporting 155 kilograms of marijuana, estimated to be worth around Ksh.4.7 million, in the Mtondia area along the Kilifi-Malindi Road.

Acting on intelligence information, the detectives halted a Subaru Exiga with registration number 259K. Upon inspection, they discovered seven sacks of marijuana inside the vehicle.


"Officers from the Anti-Narcotics Unit (ANU) in Malindi were summoned to weigh the substance and handle the case. The total weight of the marijuana was 155 kilograms, valued at Ksh.4,650,000," stated the DCI in a release on X.

The individuals in the vehicle fled when signaled to stop, escaping into a nearby thicket before the police could apprehend them.

A search is currently underway to locate them. The seized drugs and the vehicle have been transported to Malindi Police Station for official procedures and documentation.
