Five county government employees have been charged with stealing medication from two public health clinics in Masinga Sub-County.

Clinical officer Mathenge Ndungi and nurse Pauline Kiura appeared in Kithimani court on April 27th, 2024, accused of stealing drugs valued at KSh 14,676 from Kaewa Health Centre.

In a separate but related case, Mathenge Ndungi, along with nurse Benson Chuma, watchman Benson Mutinda, and cleaner John Wambua, faced charges of stealing KSh 30,745 worth of medicines from Itunduimuni Dispensary in Masinga.

The stolen drugs belonged to the Machakos County government. All the accused pleaded not guilty before Principal Magistrate Paul Matanda and were granted release on a KSh 100,000 bond or a cash bail alternative of KSh 50,000 each.

The court has scheduled a case mention for September 4th and a hearing for October 1st, 2024.

The suspects were apprehended on August 10th, 2024, after a break-in at the medicine store led to the discovery of missing drugs. Some of the stolen medications were later recovered from one of the suspects during the police investigation. The incident is recorded under police OB number 08/07/08/2024.
