Detectives have arrested two suspects in Kwale County after seizing bhang worth an estimated Ksh. 9,421,500 during a police operation.

The main suspect, Irene Auma, was apprehended alongside her accomplice, Hamisi Omar, in the Corner ya Chief area of Diani.

"Following a crucial tip-off, the officers swiftly apprehended a suspect, Hamisi Omar, who led them to a nearby drug store where they uncovered 10 sacks of Marijuana weighing 314.05kgs with an approximate street value of Sh9 421, 500. The pursuit then led to the arrest of the main suspect, Irene Auma, aged 30 years in a nearby house."

Detectives from the Anti-Narcotics Unit and the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) conducted the operation following a tip-off.

Authorities reported that Hamisi Omar was arrested first and subsequently led the detectives to a nearby drug store, where they uncovered ten sacks of marijuana weighing 314.05 kg, valued at approximately Ksh. 9,421,500.

Further investigations led to the arrest of Auma, aged 30, who was found hiding in a nearby house.

Officers seized additional sacks of unrolled bhang worth Ksh in a related crackdown. 1,749,000 and at least 30 jerrycans of illicit brew (chang’aa) valued at approximately Ksh. 240,000 at Luore Shopping Centre in Rusinga West, Homa Bay County.



Police are currently searching for the main suspect, Kevin Barasa, alias Kevo, who managed to evade arrest. The arrested suspects remain in police custody, and the recovered narcotics are being held as evidence.

This operation underscores the ongoing efforts by law enforcement agencies to curb illegal drug trafficking and the sale of illicit brews in Kenya.
