Police in Kitui are investigating an incident where a two-month-old baby was found abandoned in Nzalae sub-location. The infant, a boy approximately two months old, was discovered near a footpath in Pangani village and was rescued by a local resident. According to authorities, the baby appeared to be in good health and was taken to Mwingi Hospital for medical care and temporary shelter at the children's unit until further arrangements can be made.

After initial investigations, police identified the child's mother, a 20-year-old woman, as the primary suspect. She was located and arrested at Kithyoko market and is currently being held in custody, awaiting a court hearing. The suspect is from the Kithyoko area, police confirmed. The case is ongoing.


In a separate incident on Wednesday night, a fire broke out in Mugae village, Ruiri Rwarera location, Meru. David Koome, the man involved, had been clearing his land by burning twigs around 9:00 pm when the fire accidentally spread, consuming his entire house and all his belongings. Police reported that important land sale agreements belonging to his siblings were also destroyed in the fire.

Officers from Kathare Police Station responded to the scene, and investigations are underway. The total value of the damaged property has yet to be determined.
